Question Bank

Create, organize, and manage questions by class and subject for use in online exam papers.

Creating Questions

  1. Navigate to Question Bank in the sidebar.
  2. Select Branch, Class, and Subject.
  3. Click "Add Question".
  4. Choose Question Type and Difficulty Level.
  5. Enter question text, marks, optional negative marks, and explanation.
  6. Add options (for MCQ/MultiSelect/TrueFalse) or matching pairs (MatrixMatch).
  7. Click Save.

Question Bank Collections

Questions are organized into named collections scoped to Class + Subject:

  • Create a Collection — e.g., "C1-Maths Question Bank", "C5-Science Chapter 3".
  • Add Questions — the same question can belong to multiple collections.
  • Collections help organize questions for different exam types or chapters.
📝 Note: Questions are scoped to Branch → Class → Subject. When building a paper for a subject, only questions matching that subject's class are available.

Bulk Import from Excel / CSV

Save time by importing questions in bulk instead of adding them one by one. Supported types: MCQ, MultiSelect, MatrixMatch, ImageMCQ, TrueFalse, FillInBlank, and Subjective.

  1. Click "Import Excel" on the Question Bank page.
  2. Download the template — Excel (.xlsx) or CSV. The Excel file contains a Questions sheet with sample rows and an Instructions sheet explaining every column.
  3. Fill in your questions (keep the header row unchanged, delete the sample rows). Supported columns:
    • QuestionText (required) — supports LaTeX $...$ and chemistry \ce{...}.
    • QuestionType (required) — MCQ, MultiSelect, MatrixMatch, ImageMCQ, TrueFalse, FillInBlank, or Subjective.
    • Difficulty — Easy / Medium / Hard (default: Medium).
    • Marks / NegativeMarks — numbers (Marks default: 1).
    • OptionA..OptionF — option texts; at least 2 for MCQ/MultiSelect/ImageMCQ.
    • CorrectAnswer — option letter for MCQ (e.g., A), comma-separated letters for MultiSelect (e.g., A,C), True/False for TrueFalse, the answer text for FillInBlank.
    • MatrixPairs — for MatrixMatch: left=right pairs separated by | (e.g., India=Delhi|Japan=Tokyo); at least 2 pairs.
    • QuestionImageUrl, Explanation, Tags — optional.
  4. Select the Class and Subject the questions belong to (these apply to all rows; they are not part of the file).
  5. Upload the file and click Import. Two ways to upload:
    • Plain Excel/CSV (no images) — upload the .xlsx/.csv directly (max 5MB).
    • ZIP with images — for ImageMCQ questions: place the image files (jpg/jpeg/png/gif/webp/svg, each under 2MB) in the same folder as the Excel, enter the image file name (e.g., m_q1.jpg, case-insensitive) in the QuestionText column of the ImageMCQ row, then zip the Excel + images together (max 100MB). The system extracts the images, stores them securely, and links each question to its image automatically — students see the image when writing the exam. The uploaded zip is also archived outside the web folder for audit.
  6. Review the result panel — Total / Imported / Skipped / Failed counts with a per-row error list for any rejected rows.
📝 Note: Duplicate rows (same question text for the same class + subject) are skipped automatically. Valid rows are imported even if some rows fail — fix the reported rows and re-upload only those. For image rows, a missing/oversized image file is reported per-row while the question itself still imports (without the image).

Editing & Deleting

  • Edit — update question text, options, marks, or difficulty at any time.
  • Delete — soft-deletes the question (removed from Question Bank but preserved in existing papers).
